E-Pass Now Required for Dindigul

For travelers planning to visit the picturesque hill stations of Dindigul in the coming weeks, there is an important update regarding entry requirements. The Madras High Court has introduced an e-pass system for all visitors entering these popular destinations to protect the natural environment and manage tourist influx effectively.

E-Pass Requirement from May 7 to June 30, 2024

From May 7 through June 30, 2024, tourists must obtain an e-pass to access Dindigul. Tourist vehicles without an e-pass will not be permitted entry during this period, while local vehicles are exempt from this new regulation. This measure aims to control traffic and preserve the region's natural beauty.

Ongoing Studies and Interim Measures

To establish the carrying capacity of the ghat roads leading to Dindigul, the Tamil Nadu government has engaged research teams from IIT Madras and IIM Bengaluru. These comprehensive studies, expected to take six months, will provide data-driven recommendations for sustainable tourism management in the area. In the meantime, the court has requested the implementation of temporary measures to regulate tourist activity.

Madras High Court's Decision and Implementation

The Madras High Court emphasized the necessity of the e-pass system during a recent hearing, aiming to manage the flow of visitors and vehicles. The District Collectors of Nilgiris and Dindigul have been directed to enforce the e-pass process in both hill stations, similar to the system used during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the court urged the government to promote the e-pass system through national media and provide technical support for efficient implementation.

Plan Your Trip Accordingly

If you are planning a trip to Dindigul, ensure that you secure your e-pass in advance to avoid any travel disruptions. Adhering to these regulations will enhance your travel experience and help preserve the natural environment of these hill stations.
